Administrative HistorySt Peter's, located on King Street in Aberdeen, has many different volumes covering different sections. The sections are known as the Churchyard, the Cemetery, the South Division and the West Division. The Churchyard, or Spital as it is sometimes know, is the oldest part and is situated at the back. The records for the Spital section begin in 1769. It is mainly set out in numbered Rows, but there is more to it than that - there are also sections known as Lots, Dykes, and St Peter's Orphanage. The Churchyard New Ground was in use from 1833.

Below this is the Cemetery, which is also set out in rows, but which use letters to designate between them. It was in use from May 1843. One half of the Cemetery is noted by the use of capital letters, the other by small letters - make sure you are careful to note whether the record shows if it is a capital letter or not!

The South Division of the cemetery was in use from 8 December 1874. The West Division of the Cemetery was in use from 28 July 1884. The South and West Divisions are also set out in rows, but the registers are quite clear in noting which of the two divisions is being referred to.
