The Council admitted the following to bursaries of four years duration at Marischal College. Alexander Smith, son of James Smith, goldsmith in Aberdeen, awarded one of Mr James Cargil's bursaries of £6 10 shillings. Alexander MacPherson, son of the deceased Donald McPherson, weaver in Aberdeen, awarded John Turner's bursary of 100 merks Scots. Maxwell Gordon, son of the Rev Dr George Gordon, one of the Ministers of Aberdeen, awarded one of Katharine Rolland's bursaries (privileged) of £8. James Ross, son of Benjamin Ross of Barbados, awarded James Milne's bursary of £5. Alexander Spencer, son of Charles Spencer, hosier in Aberdeen, awarded Dr Alexander Ross' bursary of £5. William Hewlit, son of Jonathan Hewlit of London, awarded Robert Cumine's bursary of £5. Alexander Duncan, son of Alexander Duncan junior, merchant in Aberdeen; and James Anderson, son of William Anderson, gardener in Aberdeen; each awarded awarded one of Dr Duncan Liddel's bursaries (privileged) of £5. The Council awarded Mr George Cruickshank's vacant bursary at the Grammar School to Alexander Thomson, son of the deceased James Thomson, late cashier to the Commercial Banking Company in Aberdeen, in place of Andrew Shepherd, who had left the Grammar School. The Council authorised the Master of Mortifications to pay to Alexander Thomson, £5 annually for five years and, on expiry of the bursary, £25 to assist in fitting him for business, in accordance with the terms of the deed of mortification. The Council remitted to a committee of the Provost, the four Baillies, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer, or any three of them, the application from Alexander Crombie, advocate, offering to purchase the feu duties and superiority of the Lands of Leddach in the Parish of Skene, and directed the committee to arrange disposal of the feu duties by public roup. The Council remitted to the same committee, disposal of the following rights: the superiority of the Half Barony of Torrie, belonging to the Master of Mortifications; the feu duties payable to the Master of Mortifications by Mr David Morice, for the lots of Middleton, Altens and Tullos; and the superiority and feu duties of the Lands of Kinmundy and Boddoms, in the Parish of New Machar, belonging to the Master of the Guild Brethren's Hospital.
