TitleAberdeen Council Register: volume 68 - extract dated 29 May 1804
DescriptionCouncil meeting, 29 May 1804
[Sederunt given]
The Council approved the report by the committee appointed to buy properties at Footdee for the improvement of the harbour, of the purchase of the new house and garden and adjoining houses and ground belonging to George Simmers, late of the Customs, for £1,194. (157v - 158r)

The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer, or any three of them, to consider the construction of a new street from Park Road to King Street, on the ground at the back of North Street, and to arrange the disposal of building lots on the new street by roup. (158r)

The Council resolved to give a piece of the ground at the back of North Street to the Commutation Act Trustees, in order to widen the road leading from the Castlehill towards the Thieves Bridges and Duff's Parks. (158r - 158v)

The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer and Provost Hadden, or any three of them, to consider the application from James Staats Forbes, merchant, for permission to erect two new bridges across the Loch, to connect with St Andrew's Street and John Street. (158v)

The Council approved the disposal of the following leases: the lease of the Bell and Petty Customs for three years for £370 yearly rent to John Rae, merchant in Aberdeen, on behalf of Alexander Mearns, merchant in Aberdeen, with William Johnston, cloth merchant in Aberdeen and John Rae as cautioners; the lease of the Town's Common Mills for three years for £240 10 shillings yearly rent to John Rae, merchant in Aberdeen, on behalf of George Henderson, residing in Aberdeen, with John Rae and William Rae, merchants in Aberdeen as cautioners. (158v - 159r)

The Council considered the Provost's report that no offers had been received for the lease of the salmon fishings in the Bay of Nigg, for which a grant had been obtained from the Crown, possibly because the articles of roup bound the tacksman to clear the Bay of stones. The report suggested that the Town should undertake the expence of clearing the stones, allowing the lease to be exposed free of this obligation. The Council authorised the magistrates to obtain estimates for Bay to be cleared sufficiently to allow salmon fishing. (159r - 159v)

The Council resolved to perambulate the Inner Marches and to visit the Bridge of Dee and the Bridge of Don on 5 June 1804. (159v)
The Council considered the petition from Joseph Berry, weaver in Aberdeen, occupier of a house adjoining the mill lade at Malt Mill Bridge, stating that the house was subject to flooding from water overflowing the mill lade. The Council directed Mr Fletcher to inspect the lade, and directed the magistrates to authorise any necessary repairs. (159v - 160r)
