TitleAberdeen Council Register: volume 69 - extract dated 1808
DescriptionCouncil meeting, 22 April 1808
[Sederunt given]
The Council discussed at length the question of the removal of the guns from the Town's Battery. Various reports and detailed correspondence between the Provost for the Council and Colonel Laye, Commanding the Artillery in Northern Britain, for the Board of Ordnance, were laid before the magistrates, containing repair estimates, property valuations and details of compensation claims by the Council. They resolved to allow the government the use of the magazine and store house belonging to the Battery as a temporary depot for ammunition for the Northern District for the duration of the War, or so long as the guns remained on the Battery. Further the Council petitioned Lord Viscount Cathcart to recommend to the Board of Ordnance that the guns remain in Aberdeen and that the costs of the necessary repair work be covered by the Board. [Memorial to Lord Viscount Cathcart, Commanding the Forces in Scotland and letter to Colonel Laye engrossed]. (58v - 63r)

The consideration of a Parliamentary Bill brought by the Lord Advocate of Scotland for regulating the public records in Scotland, whereby responsibility would be transfered from the Town Clerks of the Burghs to the Sheriffs and Stewart Clerks, was deferred to a future meeting. (63r)
