Following the visit to Aberdeen in May of Mr Thomas Telford, the Council considered it advisable to appoint a committee comprising the Provost, Provost Brebner, Baillie Shepherd, Baillie Galen, the Treasurer Mr Hogarth, the Shoremaster Mr Gibbon and Baillie Tower, or any five of them (the Provost to be Convener) to oversee the operations within the Harbour. The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates the petition from the inhabitants of the loch area requesting the loch be contracted or altered to do away with its disagreeable appearance and noxious effects on the neighbourhood. (109v)
The Council remitted to a committee of the magistrates, Dean of Guild, Treasurer and Provost Brebner, or any three of them, consideration of the application from John Saunders, merchant in Aberdeen, to purchase the Executioner's house. (109v - 110r)
The Clerk Depute reported that the Treasurer had on 20 June 1809 borrowed and granted bond for £700 from the Rev George Ross Monro, Minister of Huntly, payable to him and Mrs Agnes Milne, his spouse in conjunct fee and liferent [further terms given]; £290 from Janet Begg, spouse to John Cordiner in Edinbanchory, exclusive of the jus mariti of her husband; £50, the interest payable on 20 June, to Catharine Farquharson, spouse to John Gordon, residing in Aberdeen, for the period of her life, thereafter the principal sum to be divided between her two sons John and Peter, exclusive of the jus mariti of her husband; £400 from Captain Lewis Gellie, Greenock, the interest to Helen Gellie residing in Aberdeen, for the duration of her life, thereafter one half to James Maitland, writer in Aberdeen, and one half to Helen Hyde, widow of Robert Turnbull, shipmaster in Aberdeen, and Elizabeth Hyde, spouse to James Forbes, saddler in Aberdeen, exclusive of his jus mariti.
