TitleAberdeen Council Register: volume 69 - extract dated 23 May 1811
DescriptionCouncil meeting, 23 May 1811
[Sederunt given]
The Council elected Mr John Knott, formerly Teacher of Vocal Music in Newcastle, to be Precentor in the West Church in place of Mr William Milne, lately resigned, and to be Teacher of Vocal Music in Aberdeen, at an annual salary of £30. (193v - 194r)

The Council made its annual Perambulation of the Inner Marches however, on account of the wetness, they were unable to perambulate any more of the line of the March than that part from the Gallowgatehead to the Block House, in the course of which it was found to be clear. It was decided to appoint a committee comprising the Provost, Baillie Donald, Dean of Guild and Treasurer, William Pirie, James Andrew Sandilands, Alexander Simpson and two Trades councillors, (the Provost to be Convener), to perambulate and examine the Royalty Marches to ascertain the accuracy of the definition in the Council minute of 20 May 1809 and to consider the propriety of placing upright stones adjacent to the old March saucer stones, marked on the top and numbered progressively, in the same manner as the Freedom Land stones. (194r - 194v)

The Council visited the Bridge of Dee and the Bridge of Don and reported on their state. It was observed that the north wall of the Bridge of Don was in need of harling and that pointing was required on parts of the parapet walls and buttresses. While it was observed that the pointing on areas of the parapet walls and elsewhere on the Bridge of Don was in want of repair and that the shoing needed attention. (194v - 195r)

The Council approved and admitted the following as coal metters at the Shore in place of those who had died and upon the recommendation of William Gibbon, Berth Master and Superintendent of the Metters; William Galen, labourer, and George Bruce, John Crombie and John Alexander, mariners. (195r)
