The Council deferred consideration of a letter from William Mitchell Esq, Montrose, announcing that his brother, John Mitchell Esq of London, merchant, was offering himself as a candidate for the District of Burghs in the new Parliament. The Council requested the Provost to ask James Farquhar Esq of Inverbervie, the late Member of Parliament for the District, for his opinion on the most suitable candidate to represent the District.
