The Council resolved to support John Mitchell Esq of London, a gentleman of considerable commercial eminence, as their candidate at the ensuing election of a Member of Parliament for the District of Burghs, on the recommendation of Mr Farquhar, the late Member of Parliament for the District. The Council elected Alexander Brebner Esq of Learney, Burgess of Guild and Provost of Aberdeen, to be the Commissioner for the Burgh at the election of a Member of Parliament to serve in the United Kingdom Parliament for the Burghs of Aberdeen, Montrose, Brechin, Aberbrothock and Inverbervie, at Brechin on 31 March 1820. The Council elected the following gentlemen to be Managers of the Poor's Hospital for the year ending Candlemas 1821: the Provost, magistrates and other members of the Town Council; Messrs Charles Walker and William Shepherd; Doctors Livingstone, Ogilvie, Moir and Dyce; Mr Niven; Mr Robert Garden; Mr Thomas McCombie and William Smith, merchants; Mr David Chalmers; Rev Dr Tawse; Dr Dauney; Mr Carnegie; Mr John Ross, organist, and Convener Milne. The Council agreed to pay [no sum stated] out of several funds for the relief of the poor, to the Managers of the Poor's Hospital. (226v)

The Council appointed Hugh Lumsden Esq of Pitcaple, advocate, Ruling Elder, to be their Commissioner to the next General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, to be held in Edinburgh on 18 May 1820, being satisfied of his qualifications for the commission. (226v - 227r)

The Council elected Hugh Lumsden Esq of Pitcaple to be Town's Counsel in their ordinary business at Edinburgh, in place of Mr Andrew Skene, who had been unable to act on the Town's behalf on certain occasions, owing to the multiplicity of his professional business. The Council directed the magistrates to give a retaining fee to Mr Lumsden. (227r - 227v)

The Council awarded one of Dr Duncan Liddel's bursaries of £5 for one year to Alexander Whyte, student in the Greek class, on the recommendation of the Faculty, in place of George Wilson, who had been awarded to one of Sir Robert Burnett's bursaries. (227v)

The Council considered plans from the Police Commissioners to improve the area in Castle Street where the Cross and Plainstones were situated, but resolved that the Cross should remain as it was. The Council authorised the Dean of Guild to pay a reasonable sum for the repair of the Cross before the King's coronation, and instructed the Clerk to return the plans to the Police Commissioners with their thanks.
