| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 70, FOLIOS 258r - 259v Council meeting, 7 August 1821 [Sederunt given] The Council approved the report of the Standing Committee on the application by the Rector and Masters of the Grammar School to increase school fees. The report recommended that the school fees should be raised from seven shillings six pence to ten shillings six pence, having consulted with the Principal and Professors of Marischal College and the Town's Ministers, and having considered the fees paid in other towns in Scotland. The Council authorised the Rector and Masters of the Grammar School to exact the increased fees from 1 November 1821, except from those boys recommended by the magistrates to be taught gratis or for reduced fees. (258r - 258v) The Council resolved to present a loyal and dutiful address to the King on the occasion of his coronation, which took place on 19 July 1821. [Address engrossed.] The Council directed the Provost to sign the address on their behalf, and to transmit it to Lord Sidmouth, principal Secretary of State, for him to present it to the King.
