| Description | Council meeting, 27 September 1814 [Sederunt given] The Council considered the report of the Standing Committee on the expediency of augmenting the composition payable by entering Burgesses of Guild, in accordance with the Act of Council of 30 September 1813. The proposal was supported by the Dean of Guild Court, which recommended that the Town Council increase the dues to a level not more than double the amount of current compositions. [Minute of meeting of Dean of Guild Court of 24 September 1814 engrossed.] The Council enacted that from 1 January 1815 entering Burgesses of Guild should pay the following sums of money to the Dean of Guild: First, extraneans should pay an entry composition of £50 (of which £30 to go to the Guildry, £1 Arms money, £2 to the Guild Wine Fund and £17 to the Additional Fund). Second, persons who had married the daughter of a Burgess of Guild should pay an entry composition of £20 to the Guildry, £1 Arms money, £2 to the Guild Wine Fund and £17 to the Additional Fund. Third, persons who had served a regular apprenticeship to a Burgess of Guild (not under three years) and had paid £3 to the Dean of Guild during their indenture, should pay an entry composition of £20 to the Guildry, and £1 Arms money, £2 to the Guild Wine Fund and £17 to the Additional Fund. Fourth, persons who had married the daughter of a Burgess of Guild, had served a regular apprenticeship to a Burgess of Guild, and had paid £3 to the Dean of Guild during their indenture, should pay an entry composition of £10 to the Guildry, £1 Arms money, £2 to the Guild Wine Fund and £17 to the Additional Fund. Fifth, apprentices who had paid £2 to the Dean of Guild before 27 September 1814, should pay an entry composition of £24 to the Guildry, £1 Arms money, £2 to the Guild Wine Fund and £17 to the Additional Fund. If apprentices had paid £3 before the expiry of their indentures, they should pay an entry composition of £20 to the Guildry, plus £1 Arms money, £2 to Guild Wine Fund and £17 to Additional Fund. Sixth, all sons of Burgesses of Guild should pay £6 to the Additional Fund, £1 Arms money and £1 to the Guild Wine Fund, but nothing to the Guildry. Seventh, all children of Burgesses, if admitted when under age, should pay £6 to the Additional Fund before they are allowed to exercise their Freedom. Eighth, the compositions payable do not include the Town Clerks' and officers' dues which are fixed at £1 5 shillings (16 shillings to the Clerks and 9 shillings to the officers, of which 5 pence is delivered to the Provost at the time of entry). The Council granted the application from Mr John Ewen, merchant in Aberdeen, representing the late Miss Elizabeth Peacock, lawful daughter of the late Mr Francis Peacock, many years Teacher of Dancing in Aberdeen, for liberty to insert a square tablet bearing an inscription in the north west outer pillar of Drum's Isle, on payment of five guineas to the Master of Kirk Work. The Council granted the petition from Mitchell Sinclair, residing in Aberdeen, requesting to be admitted as a coal metter at the Shore, in place of the deceased George Garvock, to whom he had acted as Assistant, on condition that he found caution to the satisfaction of the magistrates. (36v)

The Council approved the following sums having been sunk in the hands of the Treasurer. First, £56 had been sunk by the Managers of the North Shipping Company in return for an annuity of £7 per annum for ten years, payable half yearly for the behoof of the families of the crew of the Lord Dundass, which was wrecked some time before. Second, £200 had been sunk on a life annuity of £70 payable to Alexander Allan, shipmaster in Aberdeen, aged 56, and £200 on a life annuity of £22 payable to Jean Simmer, aged 62, spouse to the said Alexander Allan.
