The Council granted the application from Mr William Copland, advocate in Aberdeen, to continue in the post of Collector of the Cess for the City and Liberties for the current year, on sureties provided by Mr James Milne, merchant, and Rev Dr David Cruden, minister of Nigg. The Council agreed to give the Taxation Book to Mr Copland and charged him to collect the whole assessed taxes (less a discount of £50 for his trouble, risk and expense), and the small feu and teind duties owing to the Treasurer. The Council approved the request from Mr John Sim, clerk to the committee of Burgesses, for the committee to inspect the City records on the following Thursday. The Council appointed a committee of Baillies Brown, Chalmers and Milne, the Dean of Guild and the Treasurer, Mr James Hadden and Mr Alexander Galen, together with the Town Clerk or the City Chamberlain to attend the committee of Burgesses of Guild during their inspection. The Council approved the advance by the Trustees for the Town's creditors of the sum of £231 16 shillings 8 pence for the payment of bursaries at Marischal College, on condition that the sum was deducted from the debt due by the Treasurer to the Master of Mortifications. (122v)
