The Council elected Baillies James Milne and John Young and Messrs Alexander Duncan and Robert Brown, all merchants and Burgesses of Guild, to be the Bridewell Commissioners for the two years ensuing to execute the powers granted by the Act of Parliament 42 GEO.III on behalf of the Council. Following the report of the Examinators of Competitors for Bursaries, the Council admitted the following to bursaries of four years duration at Marischal College; William Clerihew, son of George Clerihew, builder and Burgess of Guild, to one of Katharine Rolland's bursaries of £9; Alexander Paterson, son of John Paterson, carter, Rubislaw, to one of Sir Thomas Crombie's bursaries of £9; James Templeton, son of the Rev James Templeton, Aberdeen, to one of James Cargill's bursaries of £9; Robert Reid, son of James Reid, farmer, Rathven, to one of Sir Thomas Crombie's bursaries of £9; John Milne, Majir, son of Dr John Milne, Bombay, to Reid's bursary of £6; Alexander Innes, son of Captain Thomas Innes of the Helen, London, to Turnerhall's bursary of £5 11 shillings and 1 pence; each of Alexander Philip, son of Alexander Philip, book-binder in Aberdeen and Burgess of Guild, and George A Esson, son of John Esson, merchant in America and Burgess of Guild, to one of Dr Duncan Liddell's bursaries of £5. The Provost reported on the recommendation of the Masters and the Visitors of the Schools relating to the Writing School, taught by Mr Craigmyle, and the Mathematical School, taught by Mr Gordon, and the issuing of prize books to scholars. (223r - 223v)
The Council appointed the Taxers and Stent Masters for the year Martinmas 1827 to Martinmas 1828: Alexander Stewart and James Brebner, two of the present Baillies; Robert Duthie, Dean of Guild and Alexander Duncan, late Dean of Guild; Andrew Duncan, Treasurer; Mr Robert Catto, late Treasurer; Messrs William Mackie, William Pirie, George Thomson, William Catto, George Lyall, Alexander Dalgarno, William Johnston, John Maitland, Alexander Simpson, Peter MacFarlane and John Lumsden, all merchants in Aberdeen; Charles Chalmers and William Stuart, advocates; Deacon William Coutts and Deacon James Cobban, the two Trades Councillors.
The Council directed the Taxers and Stent Masters to raise the following sums: £526 10 shillings for the King's Subsidy; £156 19 shillings 8 pence for the Missive Dues and expenses incurred by the Commissioners to the Convention of Royal Burghs. (223v - 224v)
The Council appointed the Dean of Guild's Assessors for the year Michaelmas 1827 to Michaelmas 1828: Baillie James Milne, Baillie John Young, Alexander Duncan, late Dean of Guild, and Messrs Gavin Hadden, John Whyte, Alexander Duthie junior, William Mackie, William Pirie, Andrew Duncan, Robert Catto, Alexander Galen and David Lyall, all merchants in Aberdeen.
