| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 17v - 19r Annual election, 25 September 1822 [Sederunt given] The Council elected the following thirteen Burgesses to be members of the new Council for the year 1822 to 1823: James Hadden, Alexander Duncan junior, William Johnston, James Hadden junior, James Dyce, George Thomson, Robert Catto, Alexander Duthie junior, Robert Brown, Alexander Simpson, George Lyall, George Hendry and Harvey Hall, all merchants in Aberdeen. (17v) The Council elected the following four members of the old Council to serve on the new Council: Provost Gavin Hadden, Baillie Alexander Brown, Baillie John Young and Baillie Alexander Stewart. (11v - 18r) The Council elected Deacons Thomas Baird, coppersmith and George Michie, cooper, to be Trades councillors. (18r) The old and new Council, with the Convener and Deacons of Crafts (except Alexander Brebner and Andrew Duncan of the old Council in place of whom the Council elected David Thom and William Selbie, Burgesses of Guild, as assistants), elected the following office bearers for the year 1822 to 1823: Alexander Brown - Provost John Young - Eldest Baillie Robert Brown - Second Baillie Alexander Stewart - Third Baillie Alexander Duthie junior - Youngest Baillie William Johnston - Dean of Guild George Thomson - Treasurer Robert Catto - Master of Shoreworks Harvey Hall - Master of Kirk and Bridge Works George Lyall - Master of Mortifications George Hendry - Master of the Guild Brethren's Hospital (18r - 18v) The Council elected the said Provost Alexander Brown, Baillies Robert Brown and Alexander Stewart to be Keepers of the Keys of the Town's Charter Chest for the year 1822 to 1823. (18v) The Council elected for the year 1822 to 1823 the Provost, four Baillies, Dean of Guild, Mr Gavin Hadden, Mr Alexander Duncan junior, Mr James Hadden and Mr Alexander Simpson to be Commissioners of Infeftments; and the same gentlemen with the two Trades councillors to be Auditors of the Town's Accounts. (18v) On the motion of Baillie Milne, the Council gave a unanimous vote of thanks to Mr Gavin Hadden before he stepped down from the office of Provost of Aberdeen, for his services while Chief Magistrate.
