| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 34v - 35v Council meeting, 23 September 1823 The whole members of Council Mr Johnston, the Dean of Guild, reported that the Lands of Wester Cairnie, belonging to the Dean of Guild and lately under lease to William James and George Milne, had recently expired as a result of George Milne's death. Consequently the magistrates had accompanied Mr John Innes, land surveyor, to inspect the lands, consisting of about 700 acres of arable and barren ground, and were of the opinion that they should be feued out in different lots of moderate sizes. However as it was considered too late to dispose of the lots and give entry to the ensuing crop, the Dean of Guild advised the lands be let to the current tenants for one year, they having offered £60 of additional rent for the same. The Council approved of this action and recommended the feuing out of the land to the early attention of the new Council. (34v - 35r) The Council authorised the Dean of Guild to borrow from the Bridge of Don Fund the sum of £400 on account of the Lands of Skene towards repayment to Messrs Innes and Dallas, Writers to the Signet, of the sum of £300 with interest advanced by them on account of the Dean of Guild and now due to them as detailed in the Act of Council of 6 November 1822, and further to borrow £200 from the Commissioners of Infeftment Fund to defray the expence of repairs to the Town House and of painting and refurnishing the Town Hall, the said two sums bearing interest at four and a half percent. (35r) The Council approved the petition from George Innes, watchmaker, that a piece of ground along the south side of Skene Street, adjacent to the Upper Bridge across the Denburn, be let by public roup at 3 shillings per foot and recommended the sale of the ground to the early attention of the new Council. (35r - 35v) The Council admitted Alexander Duguid and William McCombie, formerly admitted as Infant Burgesses, along with Robert Moir, son of George Moir, late vintner, as Burgesses of Guild. (35v) |
