| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 39v - 40v Council meeting, 28 October 1823 [Sederunt given] Following the report of the Examinators of Competitors for Bursaries, the Council admitted the following to bursaries of four years duration at Marischal College; James Whyte, son of John Whyte, merchant, to one of Mr James Cargill's bursaries of £9; William McKenzie, son of George McKenzie, merchant, to one of Katherine Rolland's bursaries of £9; Joseph Williamson, son of James Williamson, flesher and James Leslie, son of William Leslie, merchant, each to one of Sir Thomas Crombie's bursaries of £9; John Burton, son of the deceased William Burton, sometime Lieutenant in the East India Company's service, to one of Reid's bursaries of £6; Alexander Low, son of David Low, farmer in Skene, to Turnerhall's bursary of £5 11 shillings 1 pence; Robert Brown, son of Alexander Brown, hosier and Burgess, Andrew Milne, son of Andrew Milne, manufacturer in Aberdeen and Alexander Allan, son of James Allan, ironmonger and Burgess, each to one of Dr Duncan Liddel's bursaries of £5. (39v - 40r) The Council appointed the Taxers and Stent Masters for the year Martinmas 1823 to Martinmas 1824: Alexander Duthie junior and James Brebner, two of the present Baillies; Robert Duthie, Dean of Guild; William Johnston, late Dean of Guild; John Whyte, Treasurer; George Thomson, late Treasurer; Messrs Alexander Duncan junior, Alexander Galen, Alexander Stewart, James Lamond, Robert Catto, William Mackie, John Maitland, William Pirie, Alexander Simpson, John Lumsden, all merchants; James Blaikie and Charles Chalmers, advocates; Deacons William Smith, glazier and James Cobban, wright, the two Trades Councillors. The Council directed the Taxers and Stent Masters to raise the following sums: £526 10 shillings for the King's Subsidy; £124 10 shillings 8 pence for the Missive Dues and expenses incurred by the Commissioners to the Convention of Royal Burghs.
