| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 75v - 77v Annual election, 22 September 1824 [Sederunt given] The Council elected the following thirteen Burgesses to be members of the new Council for the year 1824 to 1825: James Hadden, John Young, Alexander Duncan, William Johnston, George Thomson, Robert Catto, Alexander Stewart, Alexander Simpson, George Lyall, John Maitland, George Hendry, Peter MacFarlane and Gavin Hadden junior, all merchants in Aberdeen. (75v) The Council elected the following four members of the old Council to serve on the new Council: Provost Alexander Brown, Baillie James Milne, Baillie James Brebner and Mr Gavin Hadden. (76r) The Council elected Deacons William Spark, watchmaker, and James Williams, cooper, to be Trades councillors. (76r) The old and new Council, with the Convener and Deacons of Crafts (except William Lumsden, Robert Walker and James Lamond of the old Council and James Hadden, John Young, John Maitland and Gavin Hadden junior of the new Council, in place of whom the Council elected George Henderson, James Downie, Robert Jack, George Aiken, James Cruickshank, David Thom and Alexander Smith, Burgesses of Guild, as assistants), elected the following office bearers for the year 1824 to 1825: Gavin Hadden - Provost James Milne - Eldest Baillie John Young - Second Baillie Alexander Stewart - Third Baillie James Brebner - Youngest Baillie George Thomson - Dean of Guild Alexander Duncan - Treasurer Robert Catto - Master of Shoreworks George Lyall - Master of Kirk and Bridge Works George Hendry - Master of Mortifications Gavin Hadden junior - Master of the Guild Brethren's Hospital (76r - 76v) The Council elected the said Provost Gavin Hadden, Baillies John Young and Alexander Stewart to be Keepers of the Keys of the Town's Charter Chest for the year 1824 to 1825. (76v) The Council elected for the year 1824 to 1825 the Provost, four Baillies, Dean of Guild, Mr Alexander Brown, Mr James Hadden, Mr William Johnston and Mr Alexander Simpson to be Commissioners of Infeftments; and the same gentlemen with the two Trades councillors to be Auditors of the Town's Accounts. (76v - 77r) On the motion of Baillie Duthie of the old Council, a vote of thanks was passed for Provost Brown for the unwearied attention paid by him to all the public and private duties of a Chief Magistrate and, especially, his efforts regarding the funds of the Corporation.
