Following the report of the Examinators of Competitors for Bursaries, the Council admitted the following to bursaries of four years duration at Marischal College; William Cooke, son of John Cooke, agent in Calcutta, to one of Sir Thomas Crombie's bursaries of £9; Alexander Dyce, son of Dr William Dyce, physician in Aberdeen, and William Smith, son of Alexander Smith, late merchant in Aberdeen, each to one of Mr James Cargill's bursaries of £9; John Ogilvie, son of William Ogilvie, farmer, Parish of Marnoch, to one of Sir Thomas Crombie's bursaries of £9; Alexander Gibbon, son of the late Alexander Gibbon, sometime shipmaster in Aberdeen, John Dean, son of John Dean, bleacher, Burnside, and William Webster, son of John Webster, blacksmith in Aberdeen, each to one of Mr James Cargill's bursaries of £9; Harry Anderson, son of the late James Anderson, sometime baker in Inverury, to one of Ross's bursaries of £6; William Templeton, son of the Rev James Templeton in Aberdeen, to one of Reid's bursaries of £6; Alexander Balfour, son of William Balfour, clerk to Messrs Maberly & Company in Aberdeen, to one of Mr Alexander Cruden's bursaries of £5. The Council fixed 1 November 1824 for electing one of the Town's Ministers, a vacancy having arisen following the death of the Rev Dr James Ross. (84v)
