Council meeting, 7 April 1825
[Sederunt given]
Hugh Lumsden Esq of Pitcaple, advocate and Ruling Elder, was elected to represent the City of Aberdeen as its Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh on 19 May 1825. (99r - 99v)
Baillie Milne laid before the Council the report of the Committee investigating the terms of the Common Indenture passed between the Town and the Incorporations in 1587 and the regulations contained in it respecting entering Craftsmen. He reported that a meeting had taken place between a Sub-Committee of the Council and a deputation from the various Incorporations at which the Trades made a proposition which, on consulting the different Incorporations, was acceptable to the Convener Court, although it did not entirely meet with the wishes expressed by the Council [details of proposition given]. On deliberating the matter, the Sub-Committee, recommended that the Council reaffirm its position as regards the Common Indenture. The Council approved the report and opinion of the Committee and the resolution to adhere to the order contained in the Common Indenture. (99v - 100v)
