| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 101r - 102v Council meeting, 30 April 1825 [Sederunt given] James Grant, advocate in Aberdeen, was appointed to continue in the office of Collector of Taxation for the City of Aberdeen for the year 1825 to 1826 with an allowance of £50 for the expense of collecting and risk of bad debt. Sureties were offered by John Ramsay Esq of Barra and Francis Gordon Esq of Kincardine. (101r - 101v) The Council heard a petition from James Grant, the said Collector of Taxation for Aberdeen, setting forth that from his allowance of £50 he was expected to make good all deficiencies on the amount stented by the Board of Taxers. That in the years 1820, 1821 and 1822, as a result of the neglect of the former Collector, the losses sustained effectively reduced his allowance from £50 to £35 per annum. While the imbalance had now been remedied, Grant requested compensation for the said years which the Council approved and granted him an allowance of £40 as a remuneration for the loss. (101v - 102r) The Council agreed a donation of [no sum given] to the Managers of the Poor's Hospital and elected the following directors for the year ending Candlemas 1826; the Provost, magistrates and other members of the Town Council; Messrs Charles Walker, Alexander Duthie junior, William Davidson, William Stratton, David Chalmers, Mr William Annand of Belmont, the Rev Mr Tawse, Mr Carnegie, Town Clerk, Mr Hardie, Town Clerk Depute, Drs Dyce and Davidson, Mr George Anderson and Mr George Watson, Master of the Trades Hospital.
