The Council expressed themselves gratified by the Provost's statement and authorised the Treasurer to grant a discharge to the Trustees for the balance in their hands paid over to him. (112r - 113r) The Provost reported to the Council on the arrangements proposed by the magistrates for the management of Treasury concerns, especially as regards the extensive property belonging to the Town. They recommended that the City Chamberlain, Mr Hardie, who had lately held the position of agent and cashier for the Trustees, should be charged with the responsibility of describing to intending purchasers the nature and extent of the properties and buildings which still remained unproductive and to revise the articles of roup and associated documents. They suggested an augmentation in his salary, to include his clerk, to £300 per annum. The magistrates further advocated that the Treasury be conducted with the utmost economy and therefore that any claim on the emoluments which could be derived from drawing conveyances of properties to feuars and other writings should be renounced. All of which the Council approved. (113r - 114v) Mr Carnegie, Town Clerk, delivered a statement to the Council communicating his willingness to renounce his claim on the fees and emoluments which he formerly derived from the drawing of conveyances and other transfers of subjects belonging to the Treasury of Aberdeen. (114v - 115r) Mr Hardie, City Chamberlain, likewise renounced his claim on the fees and emoluments which he formerly derived from the drawing of conveyances and other transfers of subjects belonging to the Treasury of Aberdeen. However he suggested that he would be grateful for a small addition to the £30 allowance he received for a clerk. (115r - 116r) The Council approved the liberal conduct of Mr Carnegie and Mr Hardie in this regard. (116r) |
