| Description | COUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 116v - 117v Annual election, 28 September 1825 [Sederunt given] The Council elected the following thirteen Burgesses to be members of the new Council for the year 1825 to 1826: Robert Walker, William Lumsden, Alexander Galen, William Mackie, James Hadden junior, Alexander Duthie junior, John Whyte, Robert Brown, James Lamond, Robert Duthie, William Brown, Andrew Duncan and Robert Davidson, all merchants in Aberdeen. (116v) The Council elected the following four members of the old Council to serve on the new Council: Provost Gavin Hadden, Baillie John Young, Baillie Alexander Stewart and Mr Alexander Brown. (116v) The Council elected Deacons David Carter, blacksmith and James Robb, wright, to be Trades councillors. (116v) The old and new Council, with the Convener and Deacons of Crafts (except Baillie James Brebner, Alexander Brown, Peter McFarlane and Gavin Hadden junior of the old Council and Mr William Lumsden of the new Council, in place of whom the Council elected William Selbie, George Hunter, George Henderson, George Aiken and James Cruickshank, Burgesses of Guild, as assistants), elected the following office bearers for the year 1825 to 1826: Gavin Hadden - Provost John Young - Eldest Baillie Robert Brown - Second Baillie Alexander Stewart - Third Baillie Alexander Duthie junior - Youngest Baillie John Whyte - Dean of Guild William Brown - Treasurer Andrew Duncan - Master of Shoreworks William Mackie - Master of Kirk and Bridge Works James Hadden junior - Master of Mortifications Robert Davidson - Master of the Guild Brethren's Hospital (117r) The Council elected the said Provost Gavin Hadden, Baillies Robert Brown and Alexander Stewart to be Keepers of the Keys of the Town's Charter Chest for the year 1825 to 1826. (117v) The Council elected for the year 1825 to 1826 the Provost, four Baillies, Dean of Guild, Messrs Alexander Brown, Alexander Galen, Robert Walker and William Lumsden to be Commissioners of Infeftments; and the same gentlemen with the two Trades councillors to be Auditors of the Town's Accounts. (117v) On the motion of the Provost, a vote of thanks was passed for the Trustees for the Creditors of the Treasury of Aberdeen having denuded of the Trust and the Treasury being again placed under the administration of the magistrates and Council.
