The Council resolved to advertise in the Aberdeen Journal the vacant position of Teacher at the Public Mathematical and Arithmetical School of Aberdeen to teach book-keeping, navigation, geography and arithmetic, occasioned by the resignation of Mr William Findlay who had been presented to the Church of the Parish of King Edward. The post to be filled by comparative trial on 1 May 1826 with Drs Hamilton, Glennie, Davidson and Knight, Professor Cruickshank along with Mr Alexander Galen and the said Mr William Findlay as the examiners. The Provost stated that, in consequence of the removal of the stables in the Lodge Walk belonging to the Aberdeen Mason Lodge, held by James Anderson, vintner, to the ground presently occupied as a poultry market in order to make room for the new jail, it would be necessary to accomodate the gardeners and others who frequented the market. With this in mind the Dean of Guild had procured a plan for erecting twenty-four stables or small shops in the middle of the said ground. The Council approved of the plan and remitted to the Standing Committee to take the necessary steps. (133r - 133v)
The Council agreed a donation of [no sum given] to the Managers of the Poor's Hospital and elected the following directors for the year ending Candlemas 1827; the Provost, magistrates and other members of the Town Council; Messrs Charles Walker, James Brebner, James Milne, George Thomson and William Davidson, merchants, Mr David Chalmers, Mr William Stratton, Drs Dyce and Davidson, Mr Carnegie, Town Clerk, Mr Hardie, Town Clerk Depute, the Rev Mr Tawse, Mr George Anderson, tailor, and Mr George Watson, Master of the Trades Hospital. The Provost reported on the purchase by the Standing Committee of the property in the Green adjoining the feus on the south side of Union Street, belonging to the late George Watson, barber, and after to the Managers of the Infirmary of Aberdeen, on behalf of the Treasurer of Aberdeen for the sum of £450. (134r - 134v)
The Council refused the application by William Cruden Esq from Fairholme House by Hamilton, son of the late William Cruden, sometime Provost of Aberdeen, to be admitted as a Burgess of Guild by proxy [application engrossed]. (134v - 135v)
The Council postponed until a future meeting the consideration of the petition from the Aberdeen Mason Lodge to remove the restriction contained in their feu charter granted by the Town in 1757 with respect to keeping up part of the Lodge as an inn. (135v)
The Council fixed 6 April 1826 to elect a Commissioner to attend the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland on 18 May 1826. (136r)
