DescriptionCOUNCIL REGISTER, VOLUME 71, FOLIOS 157r - 158r
Council meeting, 28 June 1826
[Sederunt given]
The Council met to resume consideration of the mode of supplying the present vacancy in the College Church and the division of the Parish of St Nicholas. The magistrates recommended preferring an application to the Presbytery of Aberdeen to secure their sanction for the division of the Parish of St Nicholas into five parishes comprehending the East and West Churches, the College Church, the Chapel of Ease, Belmont Street and St Clement's Chapel, Footdee, deferring the uncollegiating the West and East Churches for the present. The Council was also presented with an Act of Council of the City of Edinburgh and Opinion of June 1800 relating to the collegiating St Andrew's Church there by the then Procurator of the Church, now Lord Robertson, one of the judges of the Court of Session, stating that an Act of Council was considered sufficient, with the sanction of the Presbytery for the division of a parish within a Royal Burgh. All which having been considered, the Council instructed the magistrates to frame a memorial for submission to the Presbytery for their ensuing meeting on 5 July. (157r - 158r)
The Provost laid before the Council a letter from Joseph Hume Esq offering himself as a candidate for the representation of this District of Burghs in the ensuing Parliament at the next General Election. (158r)
