The Provost laid before the Council a letter from the Clerk of the Police Board to the Chamberlain, Mr Hardie, pointing out the propriety of purchasing part of a building area on the corner of Correction Wynd in St Nicholas Street for throwing open the view of the east end of the East Church [communication engrossed]. The Provost stated that several representations had been made concerning the same and, as a result, it was decided to approve the plan and purchase the whole of the feu in St Nicholas Street from the proprietor, Mr Duncan, and to pay him £250 for his trouble and expence. (168r - 169)
The Council approved of the Provost's call for a public meeting, as detailed in a requisition addressed to the magistrates [requisition engrossed], to consider the propriety and necessity of applying to Parliament for a new Police Bill. The magistrates concurred with the request and the Council reolved to contact the Police Board to discuss the matter further. (169v - 170r)
