TitleAberdeen City: Council Register Volume 71
DescriptionMinutes of the Council of Aberdeen, 26th September 1821 - 19th May 1828.

The period 1821 to 1828, covered by this register, was a difficult time for the Council. Control of the Town's finances was only finally regained in
1825, having been vested in its creditors since the crisis of 1817 and, while the proliferation of sub-committees indicates a certain refinement of
civic government, there were increasing calls for widespread reform. Two important bills, however, were passed in Parliament in 1825, one for the
erection of a new jail, or Bridewell, the other to construct a new bridge over the River Don, thereby connecting King Street with the Ellon turnpike road.
So far volumes 68 to 71 have been calendered, covering the period 1800 to 1828: for every item raised at a Council meeting a detailed summary has been entered on Clio. All personal and placenames have been included to provide a comprehensive index to the people and places mentioned in each register. While forenames and occupations have been modernised and their spellings standardised, all surnames and placenames have been rendered as they appear in the registers.
