| Administrative History | Formed under the Aberdeenshire Roads Act, 1865, which stated that from the 15th May 1866 all the highways and roads within the Parliamentary Boundaries of the Burgh of Aberdeen were transferred to the Burgh of Aberdeen Road Trustees.
The trustees would comprise: the Lord Provost (appointed Chair), Four Baillies, Dean of Guild, Treasurer, and Master of Kirk and Bridge Works of Aberdeen; the Convener of the Incorporated Trades; the Provost of Old Aberdeen; and every person rated on Property in the Parliamtentary Boundaries of the Burgh and paying Road Assessment on a yearly rent of £100 and upwards.
The Trustees were responsible for managing, maintaining and keeping in repair the Highways and Roads transferred to them, and making new Roads or altering and improving existing roads as they see fit. They could impose an an assessment as necessary to meet the associated costs. They also had an interest in the Wellington Suspension Bridge. |
