With files CA/25/2/12/12 - 44, appraisal work was carried out and a selection made from the letters contained in the original letter binder.

Appraisal criteria: anything very important would be minuted. Many letters are acknowledgements of the receipt of letters, or forms confirming that teachers have been added to the appropriate register at the Department/Board etc. These were all weeded, as were letters concerning the appointment of teachers, granting of leaving certificates, pension arrangements (lots of letters confirming length of service of teachers).

Letters relating to key policy or significant property changes were retained, and letters on individuals being assisted by poor relief or children in care as the records for the city are incomplete.
