Those qualifying could attend five year Secondary Courses in a Secondary School (leading to Leaving Certificate and University Entrance Exams) or Intermediate Courses at Intermediate Schools or Departments for 3 years to receive Day School Certificate (previously Merit or Intermediate Certificates). Intermediate courses offered were Commercial and Technical courses for Boys and Commercial and Domestic Courses for Girls.
