Description"Charter of Confirmation by James IV of a Decreet Arbitral pronounced on 24 January 1511, by the Lords of Council, Arbiters chosen by Wiliam Earl of Errol, Sheriff of Aberdeen, on the one part, and Gilbert Menzies, Provost of Aberdeen, Johhn Mar, and John Colisoun, Baillies, Sir Johne Rutherford Knight, Patrick Lesly, John Culane and James Colisoun burgesses, for themselves, and as Procurators for the whole Community of the said Burgh, constitued under their Common Seal, on the other part, anent the Jurisdiction and privilege claimed by the said Provost, Baillies and Community in punishing "of trabbil and blude that happinnet amangis nychtbouris of the said Burgh."
Finding That the saids Provost and Baillies shall have cognition in all "blude to committit" within or without the said Burgh and Freedom, by Burgesses and Free Men thereof, and that the said Sheriff shall have cognition of the like offences, within or without the said Burgh and Freedom by Persons not Burgesses thereof, reserving always to the said Provost and Baillies to "know apoun trublance committit be quhalsumeuer persounes, within "the said Burgh and Fredome" as formerly; and in like manner reserving to the Sheriff to have cognition "apoun blude alwayes" committed by Burgesses and Free-Men, outwith the said Burgh and Freedom.
Said Charter is dated at Edinburgh, 28th January 1511."
