TitleAberdeen Burgh: Charter by Mary I to the provost, baillies, and community of Aberdeen for exemption of thirteen years from great customs on salmon
Description"Charter by Queen Mary and James Earl of Arran, Regent of the kingdom, proceeding upon the narrative that the Provost, Baillies, Council, Burgesses and community of the said Burgh had been relieved by Charter of James IV (it should be James III No. 35 of this Inventory [SRO/2/1/A1/35]) of all Custom upon their Salmon taken in the Don and Dee; that they had enjoyed this exemption for 44 years until David Wod [Wood] of the Crag, Comptroller to James V, wrongously compelled them to pay the saids Customs; and, in consideration of their being willing to pay a Custom of 2/- per barrel, of new granting them exemption from all higher Custom, for the space of 13 years from the date of the Charter, which is at Edinburgh, 12th August 1543."
