TitleAberdeen Burgh: Instrument of resignation by the Minor Friars of their possessions in favour of the Burgh
Description"Instrument of Resignation by Friar John Roger, Guardian of the Minor Friars of Aberdeen, narrating that certain unruly men of this kingdom, led by what mind God knows, have destroyed and overwhelmed the Churches, Hotels, Mansions and Gardens of the monsateries, and religious places of the Kingdom, and that according to common report, certain men of the same sect, whom he is unable to resist, the Kingdom being destitute of a head by the absence of the Queen, are coming to destroy and overturn the place of the said Minor Friars; and therefore with Consent of the Convent assembled in Chapter, resigning the said place in favor of the Provost, Baillies, Council and Community of Aberdeen, providing however, that if the Queen shall restore their places to other Friars, this resignation shall not bar the restoration of the Minor Friars of Aberdeen, so as to incur the Queen's Anger.
Dated 29th December 1559."
