Robert has been promoted to Lance Corporal and is working at the field post office at the start of the diary. In March he begins as understudy to the Company Quartermaster Sergeant. There are also entries about his brother Alex being injured, and the death of his brother Alfred. He is home on leave after the armistice but returns to France at the start of December.
