Administrative HistoryThe scheme was established in January 1956 as part of efforts to regulate the employment of trawlermen on boats and ensure priority of employment for Union labour. Trawlermen had been on strike in September 1955 to demand the establishment of such a scheme, which was agreed to by the ASFVOA on the 1st October 1955. It was overseen by a Committee with a manager and a central registration office at Albert Quay.
The scheme was latterly managed by the Aberdeen (Steam) Fishing Vessel Owners Association.
