DescriptionLetter to Alexander Macdonald of Kepplestone from Hugh Cameron, 16, Picardy Place, Edinburgh, sorry for delay in writing but he has had an exhausting and exciting time, he has posted an exhibition catalogue to Macdonald, 'Responsibility' has not been entered as Macdonald's property but there have been many mistakes in the catalogue, it has instead been marked 'Sold', the exhibition is generally thought good, Reid's landscapes in particular have been well received, comments on them, he is expected to improve still further, Cassie's 'Aberdeen Harbour' is also 'refined and beautiful', mention of McTaggart's 'Young Trawlers', Macdonald must like having his 'Net Mending', Chalmers has been very successful, the President has submitted two landscapes, Millais' 'The Minuet' is good but with drawbacks, Macdonald may know it from its engraving, description of it, 'I hold Millais to be a very interesting painter, great - intense - but lacking many essential qualities', comments on 'Music hath charms' by Tom Faed, and mention of a young painter called McKay, hopes his remarks are helpful, 25 - 26 February 1869
