DescriptionLetter to Alexander Macdonald of Kepplestone from George Paul Chalmers, Buchan House, Edzell, by Brechin, explaining that he has returned to Edzell as his mother is seriously ill, she is much better now but not out of danger, he has been much delayed with his work, he feared that he would not be able to paint a picture for Macdonald, 'I feel it is a compliment to be asked by you do often to do so', it is now a strain upon him to produce something of the right standard and he has worried himself ill, he would rather fail altogether than give Macdonald a bad picture, meeting with Mr. Paton, he must soon begin Mrs. Paton's portrait, 10 August 1869
