Watson Nicol, 3, Edwardes Place, Kensington, West London, thanking him for his letter and for Mr. MacFarlane's, he has not yet started the picture as his present painting room is too small and dark for such a venture, he has had to content himself 'with a less pretentious work for this year', he is now arranging for a fine studio close by, and hopes to have the Highland painting done for next year, he will send Macdonald a photograph of it when it is ready, Professor Blackie [John Stuart Blackie, 1809 - 1895, Professor of Greek at Edinburgh 1852 - 1882] suggested he write to the editors of 'The Highlander' and the 'Celtic Magazine', which he intends to do and to be guided by the weight of evidence, 18 February 1881
