Alexander Thomson in Haddington and the Douglas Murrays nearby, Norman MacBeth to do a portrait of Dr. Andrew Thomson, and will enjoy the privilege, he 'knows all about the way of painting bands and gowns and big Bibles', gossipy letter from Pettie to Chalmers which is now going around, Chalmers' picture of old woman knitting, progress with Dr. Keith's portrait, projected visit to Herdman, who will send mostly portraits to the Exhibition, list of some other paintings and artists involved.
