Scott's), with apologies for not having written, purchase by John Forbes White of Harvey's landscape, dinner with Auldjo Jamieson and his wish to buy a Maels, Peddie is delighted with his Maels, description of large Maels landscape to go to the Royal Academy, he is to be proposed as an honorary member of the R.S.A., debate as to relative merits of Maels and Faed, advice on lighting of Chalmers' 'Sympathy', suggestion of slight improvement to Herdman's head 'Sybilla', possibility of calling at Montrose to visit Mr. Paton, notes on the Glasgow exhibition, including work by Tom Graham, Artz, Pettie, Orchardson, Burr, 'Archy' [Archibald Reid], and Peter Graham, mention of visit to Sam and Mother, and to 'a far away relation there - Hedderwick of the Glasgow Citizen - a nice little man - but oh! such a Philistine in art matters', 'Did Archy shew you the doggerel verses upon the R.S.A. which I sent him some days since? Author unknown - and so much the better', Macdonald is not to rush for an invitation to Bryce, mention of Sir Alexander Anderson's portrait, mention of exchange of portraits with Chalmers, and with Stevenson the sculptor, witticisms from Cameron.
