DescriptionLetter dated 26 August 1882 to Macdonald from George Reid, R.S.A., Balinakil, Clachan, Argyleshire, with apologies for not writing, and announcement that he has finally become engaged: 'It has come at last - after being long thought over. The play was not played in the orthodox fashion quite, but a little variety does no great harm. I am sure Miss Best will make a good wife … I'll content myself with saying nothing - only I think a good deal', lots of visitors at the house, including Mr. Moody of Chicago, Rev. Rajah GoPaul of Bombay, Kidston of Ferniegear, Mr. Mackinnon is the kind host and keeps a steam yacht, his portrait is coming along: 'He has character but nothing picturesque', enclosing Du Maurier's letter, sorry not to be able to fit in portraits of Mr. Field's brother and wife, Reid will have to give up this wandering life and only work in Edinburgh or Aberdeen, for he has had enough of it, 'Yes! you are a good fellow to have written that kind hearted letter'.
