TitleLetter to Alexander Macdonald of Kepplestone from J.C. Horsley, R.A.
DescriptionLetter dated 19 October 1868 to Macdonald from J.C. Horsley, The Athenaeum, [Piccadilly, London], regretting having missed Macdonald's letter at home, mentioning that he has been working on a small picture which he would like Macdonald to have but it cannot be brought within Macdonald's budget, so it would have been given to a dealer, except for the timely arrival of Macdonald's note and a visit of Frith who enthused about the painting and insisted that Macdonald should see it, so it has been dispatched to him, description of picture, which is a replica of one he had in the Royal Academy this year, though many prefer it to the original, mention of an etching of it which appeared in La Gazette des Beaux Arts, naming of the price, detailed description of the picture, which is called 'Detected', hopes that Macdonald will be able to visit his studio, request that if he chooses not to keep it he will not mention his refusal to anyone else, and address of the framemaker to whom it should be returned if refused. Marked 'Private'.
