Horsley, 1, High Row, Kensington, West London, with news of the meeting at the Royal Academy for the Winter Exhibition, thanks from the committee for arranging loans of paintings, including the Van Dykes belonging to Archdeacon Bisset at Lessendrum [Drumblade, near Huntly] (depicting the Earl and Countess of Peterborough and Howard of Effingham), but not the Haddo Titian, wishes that Macdonald would come to London to see the exhibition, thanks for interest in Walter who has just completed his first picture in oils, which has been complimented by Frith, Hook, and Barlow - 'the three men whose opinion I would rather take than that of any other members of my profession', description of the painting, mention of watercolour drawings of Constantinople on which Walter is also working, mention of Millais' long stay in Scotland, visit of Hook who has a cold through his insistence on painting out of doors, even this late in the year, congratulations on Macdonald [being made a magistrate?], Barlow thinks Walter's picture 'In a Predicament' would make a good print.
