Description | Charles Downie of Ashfield (1782-1866) married Mary Leith (1805-1881) in 1830. They had a son, Charles Gordon Downie (1843-1925) and a daughter, Janet Richardson (1862-). He is described in an article of the Aberdeen Journal 1860 as a 'late Druggist'. Charles Downie of Ashfield died in Cuparston Place aged 84 years [Stonehaven Journal 10 May 1866]. These records largely relate to the trustees management of land and property in Broomhill (Aberdeen) after his death.
Janet Richardson (1862-)went on to marry Rev. Edward Lumsden (see DD414/11). Their children were E R Lumsden, Charles Downie Lumsden, Mary Leith Lumsden Ferries, Elizabeth Lumsden Murra and Janet Lumsden. E.R Lumsden (see DD414/11) was a trustee of Charles Downie of Ashfield's estate.
Charles Gordon Downie (1843-1925) was an advocate in Aberdeen. He was educated at the West End Academy and at the Grammar School. In 1861 he graduated MA at Aberdeen University before being apprenticed to the legal firm of Adam and Anderson. He set up his own account in 1870 (conveyancing and family practice) and inherited the property of Ashfield from his father. He married Margaret Stuart (1849-1913).
