Robert Camperdown Haldane (1848 – 1914). Born Edinburgh, eldest son of Robert Haldane of Cloanden, Perth. Half brother of R. B. Haldane (former Lord Chancellor). Married Emily Anderson and had two sons, Maldwyn Makgill Haldane and James Oswald Haldane. Worked as a tea planter in Ceylon with Shand, Haldane & Co, London. Moved to Shetland in 1898 and purchased the Estate of North Roe from the Busta Trustees. Member of Shetland County Council for three years and strong Episcopalian.

R C Haldane is the brother of Mary Cromby Haldane/Macqueen and therefore Brother-in-law of John Otto MacQueen, founding partner of Macqueen & Findlater solicitors.
