See DD627/19/37 for a copy of an obituary from the Journal about him which records 'he was among the last of a race of good old country gentlemen in the county. He was a most considerate landlord. When any of his farm leases expired he would go and look over the farms and say to the tenants what the rent was to be, without advice or assistance of anyone..... He enjoyed the family estates about nineteen years and the improvement made upon them by him and his two elder brothers, who preceded him, can only be appreciated by those who know the properties.' |
