The Daily Free Press 29 April 1986:
"The old school, of which there is no trace today, was built in 1800, it also had a thatched roof. the number of pupils who attended is not recorded. Bulwark school closed in 1948 owing to the small number of children in the district. They now attend Maud School, the very young ones being conveyed by car. The school then carried on as a library (opened in 1949) and a social centre used by the Young Farmers Club, for ploughing match dances etc. It was also used as a Sunday School".
