Administrative History | Finzean School was originally established (as Bankhead Endowed School) in 1732 with a legacy from Reverend Gilbert Ramsay, which was funded by the sale of his slaves in Barbados. This school, known as the Soup Kitchen, was replaced by a larger building on the same site in the 19th century.
The school moved to a new site next to the Old School in 1964.
Aberdeen County Council and Aberdeenshire Council used the old school site as an Outdoor Centre for school groups until it was sold to Birse Community Trust in 2003.
