| Description | The volume relates to individuals sentenced to penal servitude who were granted a licence to be at large for part of their sentence. The licence holder was required to notify his or her place of residence and, if male, to report himself once a month to the Chief Constable.
For each licence holder, the register gives the criminal register number, name, age on discharge, height, complexion, colour of hair and eyes, crime, sentence, date discharged and distinguishing marks. Address at dates following discharge are also given. Photographs are included of some 61 licence holders released between 1869 and 1897.
