Administrative HistoryThe Fraserburgh Harbour Commissioners were established in 1818, as part of an Act of Parliament sought to facilitate the building of the South Pier at the Harbour (on the recommendation of Robert Stevenson).

Reformed under the 1878 Harbour Act, thereafter they were elected by harbour ratepayers and heritors.

Noteable developments at the Harbour:
1821 South Pier completed
1830 additional middle pier constructed
1850 - 1856/7: construction of Balaclava breakwater and pier, a 14 acre extension
1875 - 1882: extension to Balaclava harbour
1898: new South Breakwater and dry dock at head of Balaclava harbour.
1906: new spur on Balaclava breakwater.
1908 - 1914: construction of Faithlie Harbour.
