| Administrative History | A burgh of barony erected in 1677 by the Earl of Mar. It was not made into a Police Burgh (although this was discussed in the early decades of the 20th century) and did not become a statutory town council under the Local Government (Scotland) Act. It instead operated as a local amenities committee.
Insch amalgamated with Rothney in November 1923 with 8 members from Insch and 4 from Rothney, although the Councils often met jointly prior to the amalgamation.
In 1967 the Council drew up a deed of trust establishing a charity relating to their activities in relating to Playing Fields.
It was not formally disbanded under 1973 Local Government (Scotland) Act, although it did disband on May 15 1975 in recognition of the wider reorganisation, to be replaced by Insch and Rothney Council. This new council covered the parish and burgh. A minute of the 21st April 1975 confirmed that all the assets of the Town Council, including the playing field, would be passed to the Insch and Rothney Council as the successors to the Town Council.
