Administrative HistoryMurray's Institution was founded in 1848 by Mr Murray of London, a canvas manufacturer born in Macduff, for the free education of poor children. Additional properties were left in trust for the Poors School of Macduff in the will of Alexander Leask, a merchant in Macduff.
The school was closed in 1888 and the endowments were amalgamated as the Murray's Trust Macduff, to be applied for the purposes of scholarships and food for free scholars. The governorship of the Trust was transferred to the Gamrie School Board.
